Kerala is a state in southern India that has embraced the traditions and cultures of grace. Not only the state has highest literacy rate compared to all other parts of the country; but it is also rich in context of spirituality and ethnicity. Kerala's rich culture is exhibited through Kathakali, a dance form 500 years old and is admired on a large scale worldwide. Onam Festival

This ten days festival filled with raw exuberance state, and is in fact the state festival of Kerala. It has a strong significance such that all the state gets a vacation during the four day festival. Onam is a famous festival of Kerala and falls in the month of Chingam Malyalam (Aug- September). It is held to hail Vishnu Vamana avatar. Also, a revered king, Mahabali, returned home during this time; and that's what makes the celebration too.

The festival began with a parade full of energy on the first day Atham called. The most famous parade takes place in Thrikkakara Temple, which is believed to be the kingdom of King Mahabali. And until the tenth and final day of the festival, people indulge in folk art (pookkalam), music, dance (like Thiruvathira Kali), special dishes, boat races and all that the festive atmosphere at the top.

Thrissur Pooram Festival

Thrissur Pooram Festival is a popular festival in the state of Kerala. It is a temple festival flaunting vibrant colors of the culture of Kerala. There are about 12 temples, bringing together and celebrate this festival of eight days. Thrissur Pooram is indeed the end of the festival and is celebrated with fervor in the last day. The festival falls on the Malayalam Medam (Apr- May) month.

During these eight days there hoisting of the flag, fireworks, decorations elephant, parade, music and more.

Kerala Boat Festival

Not only the state has an unspoilt coastline, but the legendary Kerala Backwater makes the state glitter. Kerala backwater meanders through the state; is fed by lakes, rivers and Arabian Sea. This proximity has led to the introduction of new games and festivals.

Attukal Pongala is a festival of ten days and takes place in February / March. During these ten days, the idol of the Goddess Attukal Devi is decorated and worshiped. This is a famous temple festival which takes place mainly in Trivandrum. And not just in Trivandrum, faith and enthusiasm arose statewide alike.

There is a big meeting at the Attukal Devi Temple. This festival has a record in the Guinness Book of Records for the largest annual gathering of women. Some people attending the festival regardless of their religion, cast or creed.

Vishu Festival

Vishu in Kerala is known as Bisu in Karnataka. This South Indian festival falls in the month of April. Vishukkani a sacred ritual performed on the morning of Vishnu; This is to ensure that today's followers see things relating to prosperity as soon as they wake up and wear new clothes. To signify prosperity metal mirror, rice, yellow flowers, betel leaves, fruits, vegetables, holy books, etc; are placed in the prayer room. Makaravilakku at Sabarimala Festival

Makaravilaku is a festival of seven days beginning 14 January each year at Sabarimala. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, also known as "Hari Hara Putra". Here, Hari means Vishnu, Shiv and Hara means Putra means son. Lord Ayyappa brings people who follow Lord Shiv (Saiva) and Lord Vishnu (Vaishnites). A priest dances with a jewelry box of God, in the head. There are songs that are repeated to fill the aura and soul with holiness. The festival ended with the ceremony of "Guruthi", an offering to the Lord. After "Guruthi" everyone the temple was empty and no one is left behind.

Christmas Festival

Christmas is a very popular holiday and has a great importance worldwide. Kerala is one of the few states in India, where Christmas is celebrated on a large parameter. People exchange gifts, decorating Christmas trees and visit the churches to offer sincere prayers during this time.

Christmas falls on December 25 each year and throughout the month, streets and houses of Kerala is full of vivacity. Here, Christmas is not just a holiday; people celebrate this day with devotion, offering prayers and keep Jesus in your heart all year.

Theyyam Festival

Theyyam is a form of worship in Kerala, especially popular in the northern regions of Malabar, and Kolathunadu Kudagu. This is a cultural dance with some 400 types, in which a human deity costumes and dances on a stone platform. The dance performed is embellished with rich folk art. The interpreter dance passes through three stages. One is adorned with flower colors, mask, etc. Second is self torture and the third is being able to perform the dance without having to slow down.

Theyyam takes place usually in December of each year and their assistants to achieve a new level of satisfaction. This spectacle of ethnicity, penance and flow, has been an important facet of Kerala since ages.
